8th-Order Continuous-Time Lowpass Active Filter

The MAX274BENG+ is an eighth-order continuous-time active filter from Maxim Integrated (now part of Analog Devices), built from four cascaded second-order sections in a single 24-pin DIP. Because the filter is continuous time, there is no clock, no aliasing and no digital noise source in the signal path, which is why it is still specified in audio, anti-alias and instrumentation front ends.

Cutoff frequency and filter response are set by external resistors, so the same device serves many corner frequencies without redesigning the PCB. Operating from a single 2.37 V to 5.5 V supply, it delivers low noise and low distortion while replacing a chain of op-amps, capacitors and precision resistors with one package and a handful of resistors.
